There are basically three steps to the entire installation process. First of all, a little bit on the definition of "installation". By the term "installation", we mean that all the necessary files are transferred/moved to a directory on the machine. It does not cover the starting up or execution of the Chat Gold server of clients.
Installation Steps:
This section of the Installation process assumes that the machine running the Chat Blazer Gold server is a co-located dedicated server. You will require FTP to transfer the Chat Blazer Gold files. Telnet is an utility where you are able to execute commands on a remote machine some distance away. Or you may request the system administrator to do the installation for you since most co-location service has some sort of Administrative Service package for the merchants.
One common FTP program is WS_FTP which you can search for in www.download.com.
The aim of Step I is to unzip the software package into a directory on a machine.
To unzip the software package, please follow the sub-steps below:Before you proceed, you should have checked that all the files as stated in the Software Package description are in the newly created directory.
The aim of this step is to transfer the files to the machine which you are going to test the Chat Blazer software. This means transferring your files to your dedicated server machine.
Since your machine is not located in your premises (since your dedicated machine is co-located at a web hosting company), you need to use the FTP method of transferring files. Some hosting companies have FrontPage extension which you can use as well. Most of the time, webmasters, simply transfer the files using FTP. Or you can ask the System Administrator to install the Chat Blazer software for you.
We will not be covering the transfer of files to your virtual server account using FrontPage Extension as that is a relatively simple task. However, we will provide a more detailed description on how to transfer the Chat Blazer Gold files using FTP. Please follow the sub-steps below:
After you have transferred the files to your dedicated server, you need to verify that the files retain the same naming and casings. This Step is relevant only for UNIX users. You need to check that the following list of files have retained their casings and correct filenames. One common fault is that the Operating Systems automatically truncate the filename to 8.3 (DOS) format.
The list of files are found in the Software Package documentation. Hence, you need to check if all the class files are retained correctly in their casing and naming. E.g. Link.class is not the same as link.class. The latter will not cause your chat to work.
